“The Greek Earth opens before me like the Book of Revelations….The light of Greece opened my eyes, penetrated my pores, expanded my whole being.” Henry Miller – ‘The Colossus of Maroussi’
I visited the Greek island of Corfu in the summer of 1984 and this was my second visit to Greece in a short time following a holiday on the island of Kos the previous year. but this was my defining visit because this was when I realised that I was in love with the Greek Islands.
Good read, Andrew. Cheating? In cricket?? Beware of Greeks bearing gift long hops.
Our favourite restaurant in Sydney used to be Perama in Petersham. Wonderful food, but nobody goes there any more – way too crowded!

Thanks Richard. After 36 years I have just returned from a return visit to Corfu. The cricket ground still looks ludicrously green surrounded by parched bare earth and the boundaries are dangerously short and right next door to a car park! I wouldn’t leave my car there if there was a match on.

Corfu’s a distant memory for me, too. Russia dusted off and put away and back to good old Greece, Andrew? I bet it’s not!
My head was full of Wroclaw but I’m doing tourist stuff in the UK with my Polish niece atm so I’m a bit of a muddle.
Picture the World still on the back burner? I must check back there and see what’s new.
