The Washing Lines of Marino, Italy

The streets between the houses are like deep gullies made brilliant by vibrant washing lines strung outside windows like bunting as though in anticipation of a parade or a carnival, stretching across the streets dripping indiscriminately and swaying gently backwards and forwards above the secret doorways and back alleys.

  2. It’s not possible to go to Italy and not take a pic of a washing line!


  3. There’s nothing quite like the smell of fresh linens that have been hung out to dry in the sun. Sadly, some of our more pretentious neighborhoods have rules about hanging clothes out to dry. Then again there’s a counter-movement to save energy by using clotheslines.
    The colors are wonderful for the theme.
