The Skyline Bar, Hotel Latvia, Riga
The Hotel Latvia is a modern high quality tourist hotel but has a sinister and secretive past. It was built by the previous communist regime and was one of the few State approved tourist hotels run by the Russian travel Agency, Intourist.
Intourist was founded in 1929 by the dictator Joseph Stalin and was staffed almost exclusively by the KGB secret police. It was responsible for managing the great majority of travellers access to, and travel within, the Soviet Union and it grew into one of the largest tourism organisations in the world, with a network embracing banks, hotels, and bureaux de change.
You selfies have their own hidden theme I gather 🙂

It always strikes me as odd when people take a picture of themselves in front of something interesting like the Eiffel Tower or the Leaning Tower of Pisa for example. I always want to stop and offer to take the picture for them so that they can get a picture without their arm taking up the bottom corner and without a distorted face as they try and stretch as far away as possible from the lens.

I would definitely prefer you on the end of my camera. I’m not so good at the selfie and when attempted often get only one eye and the top of my head in the shot.
