My favourite doors are in the Cyclades where, next to the white that we all associate with the islands, the prevailing colour is blue and this colour combination has become a trademark of the islands.

This is a crazy question, but why are all the buildings on European islands white?

It has a lot to do with just keeping the places cool a bit like cricketers wearing white (I have never understood why people in southern Europe wear black) but in the Cyclades it is the law that all properties should be painted white. It was a law passed by the military government in 1974 and is still in force.
