Weekly Photo Challenge: Broken

IMX Tours Alktinkum Turkey

Hagi wasn’t in the AA roadside breakdown service or whatever the equivalent is in Turkey so there now followed a long winded debate as each of the passengers looked inside the engine compartment in turn as though they knew what they were talking about and offered alternative diagnoses and possible solutions.

There was a lot of head scratching, nodding and general agreement but the truth was however that there was no more engine technical knowledge between them than you could expect to find in an average reception class at a primary school and one by one the suggestions all inevitably failed.

      • It’s a cultural thing that is only just starting up here (literally withşn the last five years). New cars under manufacturers warranties are the only norm for servicing requirements. Medical check-ups are very new here too, and still well underused, such as smear tests, mammography and suchlike. Dental check-ups do not exist yet. The culture is very much reactive rather than proactive…

      • Thanks for the info Spike. Interestingly in Altinkum there were lots of cosmetic dentists catering for the tourists. How does that fit in with medical health in Turkey?

  4. I remember this post Andrew and laughed all over again. Our cycling guide in turkey, in response to anything going wrong, would just shrug her shoulders and say ” It’s Turkey” 🙂

  5. Sore subject right now, Andrew 😦 My stepbrother was driving back from a Norfolk holiday today. Got stuck in slow moving traffic after an accident near Grantham and his engine has blown. Waiting for the RAC. Long way from home…

Sometimes the little inconveniences and setbacks make a more memorable journey. You got a great story out of it anyway 🙂 I admire that you’re willing to admit your limited mechanical knowledge 😉 Cheers!
