      Sadly not. The bus service was privatised in 2011 and the British company Aviva. The old buses were privately owned and run on large state subsidies. They failed to meet EU emission standards so had to go. One or two have been restored and do specialist tours but they do not operate the Maltese public bus service. As might be expected Aviva made an awful job of the new service and lost 50 million euros in the first two years and they negotiated a cancellation of the contract. Spanish company Autobuses Urbanos de León took over in January this year.

        What a non-surprise, the Brits marching in to show them how to do it, and spectacularly failed. They just don’t get it, do they? Sounds like the MBT have their heads screwed on to what it should be all about. Time will tell. Good to hear some have been restored; such character.

    Of course the boats are my faves in the collection Andrew. I recall you writing that the buses are out of service now. Quite the gallery of transportation none the less.
