Festival Days – National Potato Chip Day (USA)

Potato Chips (Crisps)

My thanks to Beth from ‘I didn’t have my glasses on’ to alerting me to the fact that in the USA 14th March is National Potato Chip Day.

Are they kidding!

Whilst I am prepared to concede that they know how to prepare French Fries in McDonalds and other similar places the bottom line is simply this – in North America they don’t even know what chips are, they think they come in a foil packet.   Americans and Canadians please take note – these are not potato chips they are potato crisps!

  2. How about just plain salt?
As an American, I can further muddy the water with my opinion. .. fries are your chips, chips are real potato slices fried (Jays), crisps are made of potato mush, shaped like a chip (Pringles). 😉

  4. So really it’s national crisp day LOL French Fries are far removed from the original potato. Dont they go through some mad process of frying, drying, adding a bucket of chemicals and then shaping them? Lets hear it for REAL CHIPS yes REAL REAL REAL I tell you LOL Nice one mate!

  7. Good to read this post again, Andrew. Do we have an upcoming National Crisps day in the UK? I hope we do. I just wish they would bring back flavours like Worcester Sauce, Tomato Ketchup, and Branston Pickle.
You can’t beat the good old British Crisp as far as I’m concerned.
