Lazy few days Jo making plans for 2017, then away for New Year and then Nottingham next week for my son’s 30th birthday. Makes me feel even older! What about you?

Give my regards to Nottingham. My 45 year old lives there. Talk about feeling ancient! 🙂 Weaving our plans around our son and his social life this week but he’s back to Leeds today (if and when he gets out of bed 🙂 ). Our turn next week when we head for the Algarve.

Hi Sue and a very Happy New Year to you (Happy Holidays perhaps? – it isn’t Chinese or Islamic New Year) – sorry, that’s me being facetious!
I am undecided about next year, I have a number of posts in the pipeline to finish off 2016 but am not sure whether to carry on beyond that.
My stats have bombed and the number of visitors has just evaporated and no one wants to play to an empty theatre.
If I understood why then I would try and address it but I just don’t. I no longer get high rankings on Google so something must have changed there and interestingly visitor numbers from the USA have just collapsed so I guess that has something to do with the search engines as well.
Add to which I don’t like the changes WP are imposing on us old bloggers so I might try and find a new project!
And… another year without being Freshly Pressed!
Anyway, thank you for your support. Any dangerous plans yet for 2017?

I can understand that ‘tanking’ of views would be very frustrating. Trying to keep up with Google and the changes in search engine optimization has become a science and I am certainly just coming to know the introductory chapter. I also think over the years the competition for key words and Google rankings has escalated a lot. Whatever you decide I do hope we will keep in touch from time to time.
We do have some things up our sleeve for 2017. You will find us in South African and Zimbabwe in March. 🙂

Perhaps I’m contributing a miniscule drop in your US stats. Life seems to have gone way too busy for me to keep up in my previous fashion, but I still enjoy catching up when I can. I don’t pay a great deal of attention to my stats so I’m afraid I haven’t actually noticed any changes. Besides, I thought you said somewhere that you were putting all this together for your progeny?

Keep going for us, Andrew. Screw the numbers. Sometimes I am blown away be the randomness of WP results. The other day, 300 people from a remote town in Nevada decided to check out a blog I had written 3 years ago while several hundred decided to check out a moose sign I had posted. Who knows? –Curt

It is a tough decision Curt but I cannot deny that I have become a bit dismayed.
It is my ‘back catalogue’ that has been affected. For example I have a post about the day I went to the Queen’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, it used to come up in the top five results on a Google search and I had thousands of visitors, now it doesn’t make the first five pages and visitor numbers have just dried up. I have over 2,000 posts which were like a running stream but now they are a stagnant pond.
Pictures are another issue. I have a rather good picture of the Anonymous Pedestrians in Wroclaw, Poland – https://apetcher.wordpress.com/2014/03/14/poland-wroclaw-the-anonymous-pedestrians/ – it has been copied and used over 1,000 times on other web pages, none of which seem to provide a credit or a link. Pinterest does the most damage!
For me WP is now only about interaction about my current post which is limited whilst the historical posts generate little interest.

2000 make my 600 seem puny, Andrew. My growth has been slow but steady with very few spectacular moments. This year I barely topped last year, so I am feeling a bit of frustration as well. I put a lot of time and energy into each blog, as I know you do. I enjoy the community a lot, however. My question, as always, is what other things I might be doing with my time. There are many things I enjoy and blogging limits the time I spend in other areas. Whatever decision you make, if you decide to leave blogging, know you will be missed. –Curt
PS… ThePoland blog was quite moving.
