Since 1998 all of the UK Lighthouses are fully automated.

That little red car is being quite adventuresome! I’ve always thought of living in a lighthouse would be romantic somehow, but when you consider the reality of all those stairs and getting to the grocery store… not so much! š

Surprising thing was that once he got to the island he didn’t seem to especially rushed about getting back to the mainland! Obviously knows his tide table!

Andrew did that red car just drive through the ocean? Hopefully not a rental because my guess is driving through salt water negates all agreements. š Love the photo of the poppies too.

It was the postman and he was astonishingly relaxed about driving through the sea, but I guess you can be when it isn’t your own vehicle.
In the 1990s I worked for a waste management company called Cory Environmental. They won a beach cleaning contract in Cornwall and purchased a brand new yellow tractor to drag the cleaning chains. The manager, a nice man called Bernard, sent it out to work on the first day and it got stuck in the sand and overwhelmed by the tide and it was completely wrecked. Some how Bernard kept his job which surprised us all!

I seem to remember that the driver abandoned the tractor ahead of the danger!

Amazing to learn now a days all UK lighthouses automated. Imagine some people still live in them though as seen them advertised as holiday properties and I would like to stay in one!
