Are the women in the next to last shot dancing or fighting? Looks like you might have been hexed in the 3rd one.

It’s a good Irish jig, they are just taking it very seriously. The man was not amused when I took his picture without putting a coin in his cap.

It looks like you might have stumbled on a little piece of paradise there. Presumably the first sign is to discourage keen amateurs from digging their own graves when they think they are digging somebody else’s!

Apparently it is quite normal for a family to dig the grave for a lost relative. When I worked for the Council the H&S rules for grave digging ran into several pages!

I love all these photographs. I spent my childhood and early teens in Ireland and whereas it was less touristy than it is now, i.e. no Irish dancing in the pubs or on the streets – in fact, women weren’t ever seen in pubs, the dry-stone walls, the accordion music, and the shops selling petrol, sweets, stout, ropes and everything needed were all around me.
