“Don Quixote is the national glory of Spain. No one who does not know that has the right to call himself a Spaniard. There is a monument to him in Madrid…he was our first revolutionary.” – Gerald Brenan, ‘South from Granada’

It’s true Don Quixote is everywhere in Spain.

It’s just a pity that the book is so unreadable, because I can’t think of another famous Spanish author in the queue for that Number One Spot.

Interesting that different counties produce different forms of artists.

Don Quijote of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra is Spain. A dreamer always dreaming if not always reach the end. A visionary more than a revolutionary.

Peggy’s mom collected Don Don Quixote statues. We inherited a few. 🙂 I’ve always felt that tilting at windmills is an honorable profession!

Interesting portrayals of a great character. I read the book in translation, an Oxford or Penguin edition, I forget which. Definitely worth the read. It’s VERY long, but quite funny. Every experience of the two travellers reveals how much of a nutbar Don Quixote is, in comparison to the steadfast Sancho Panza. May we all have imaginations like the former and the loyalty of the latter.

These are all great photos and I particularly love the collection together. The combination of classic images and uniquely creative images, and everything in between seems to work so well in a single collage.
One of my favourite quotes is from the book, Theresa Panza (Sancho’s wife) says, “Hunger is the best sauce.”

If you haven’t read the book, then how did it happen that you began to collect these photos? Why choose characters you couldn’t get close to?
