  5. i love every minute i’ve spent in the pubs of ireland, each one is unique and yet the same in that they were so welcoming and friendly. thanks for sharing these

  6. I don’t know if you know the Flann O’Brien poem The Workmen’s Friend, the first stanza of which goes:
    When things go wrong and will not come right
    Though you do the best you can
    When life looks black as the hour of night
    A pint of plain is your only man
    (worth looking it up for the rest – it’s a great Irish poem about ‘the black stuff’.
