On This Day – Essaouira in Morocco

On this day in 2016 I was in the Moroccan city of Essaouira on the Atlantic coast…

I really need to be careful about making bold statements because upon returning from Morocco in December 2011 I said that I would never return there.  This is what I said…

“I enjoyed the experience of Fez, the Riad was excellent, the food was good, the sightseeing was unexpected and we were treated with courtesy and respect by everyone associated with the Riad but I have seen Morocco now and I think it may be some time before I return to North Africa as we resume our travels through Europe.”

Well, now I have to eat my words because our first overseas trip in 2016 was to Essouria on the Atlantic coast of Morocco.

  2. During times of no travel, we must rely on memories. Thanks for sharing a place I have not visited.

  3. With all this money we’re saving, the airlines and hospitality industry should be quids in when we can travel again. Question is, do we take longer holidays or more of them? Go upmarket or eat in better restaurants? I wonder if interest rates are being kept deliberately low to get us to spend our money as it’s not worth saving. I have dark thoughts lurking in my mind about this.

    • Interest rates are kept low to help Governments with enormous debt. It is a conundrum, if we have higher rates, the Government pays more interest and taxes go up. I think on balance I prefer it the way it is.

So, where shall we go when we can travel freely again? We are thinking possibly Canada or New Zealand or maybe just Yorkshire, this Covid has knocked some of the wanderlust out of me.

  4. Likewise! I had wanted to go back to Thailand just once more to see friends but I’m thinking Cornwall!
