Despite the dire warnings of blizzards and snow drifts by the alarmist right wing press we received only a delicate and rather attractive dusting.
A blast from the Past…
A few hours before the Great Storm of October 1987 BBC Weather Forecaster Michael Fish famously said during a forecast: “Earlier on today, apparently, a woman rang the BBC and said she heard there was a hurricane on the way. Well, if you’re watching, don’t worry, there isn’t!”.
The storm was the worst to hit South East England for three hundred years, causing records amount of damage and killing nineteen people.
Michael Fish has gone down in UK broadcasting history.
In reaction to the controversy, the term “the Michael Fish effect” has become famous, whereby British weathermen are now inclined to predict a worst-case scenario in order to avoid being caught out and blamed.

The last really bad Winter that I can (almost) remember was 1962/3 when I was eight and a half years old.
Nice (quaint) photos . . . http://bit.ly/3a5DRvB

You are absolutely right. I get fed up with a weather forecast which appears to be more an attempt to avoid a legal case rather than an effort to forecast the weather.

It rather depends where you are. Count yourself lucky, Andrew. đŸ™‚ đŸ™‚ Love those rusty coloured sculptures with their hint of snow.

Well I had as much as you and we shouldn’t get ANY snow! I’m a little concerned about the Agave Andrew, go and sweep that snow off before it rots the plant. Didn’t you get heavy snow in 2010? Or 2018?

Yes, both those years and in 2008 there was a lot of snow at Easter in March.
Thanks for the plant tip. It gets a bit neglected because Kim doesn’t like it so it lives at the top of the garden.

Only a moron would attempt to politicize a frickin’ weather forecast. Geez, if you haven’t been paying attention, the lame-stream media loves them so Beijing Biden. And nothing but hate for our past administration and the people who voted for him. So, my friend, the media is definitely left (socialist) based.
