I am in the Greek Islands again this week on the island of Milos. I include this picture because of the attention to detail in the peg work…
It is almost a perfect 10 but if you look more closely what lets it down slightly is the unequal distribution of colours – eight red and six green. Seven of each would have been perfection. This has led to a simple error because the red-green red-green red-green sequence is not carried through along the whole length of the washing line. A real pity that.

The Greeks, of course, pioneered the R-G-R-G-R pegging sequence. This is a good solid example but is spoilt by the wife’s excitement when she got to her husband’s trousers, and she reverted to the emergency sequence of GR-GR before running out of pegs.

That may not be the case, Andrew. Let’s assume the intention is that each item of clothing has 5 pegs in a RGRGR sequence. And then a rogue gust of wind has whipped away the first peg on the right hand item. That scenario would put the contender back in the 10 category surely?

If you’re ever coming my way, give me due warning as I shall have to make sure not to peg out any washing. Not only do I not colour sequence but mine are a mixture of plastic and wooden pegs!

I suggest also that the first green peg on the left is a slightly different shade. And the trousers should be in the middle. Am I getting the hang of this?
