March 14th in the USA is Potato Chips Day which I confess makes me smirk because in the USA they don’t even know what a potato chip is …

My husband is an expert, Andrew. I’d better not tell him about today or he’ll celebrate big time!

I rarely buy crisps any longer, they have become expensive and the packet contents seriously reduced.

Same here, Andrew. I meant ‘real’ chips 🤣🍿❤️

We had a ‘chippy tea’ last night. Good value at £7.70 for a large haddock, large ‘real’ chips and a bag of scraps. More than enough for two.

We call them “slap chips” here in SA. Apparently similar to French fries, but thicker (much thicker) and fried for longer. The first time we went overseas, I’ve ordered “slap chips” at a restaurant and the waiter was very confused 🙂, while I thought it was a very simple request.

I was 12 in 1954 and had never seen a banana. I still don’t rate them. I’m with your Dad on sandwiches. We have a nearby pub which served chips with steak and kidney pudding and gravy. I loved it. Now it has been taken over by a chain which is sad on a number of counts

I just don’t get bananas, horrible things.
Shame about the pub and change of menu. Sometimes I think that we don’t celebrate English classics as much as they deserve to be.

I can get behind a celebration of either kind!

HGi Andrew,
we sometime love French fries with a steak. But we don’t eat them often because we want to stay slim.
Thanks and cheers
