Greece is my favourite place in all of Europe!
Henry Miller wrote in The Colossus of Maroussi:
“I would stroll about in the dazzling starlight, repeating to myself as if it were an incantation: “You are in another part of the world, in another latitude, you are in Greece, in Greece, do you understand?”… I had the strange feeling of being at home, of being in a spot so familiar…. Greece is of the utmost importance to every man who is seeking to find himself”
For me the very best way to see the country and the islands is to hop on a ferry and drift between them setting down now and then to enjoy the history, the people, the food, the ouzo and the Mythos!

Love your pictures and your blog! It has been my longstanding dream to explore all those islands! Have barely scratched the surface with Santorini and Rhodes. Will surely be lurking around here for more 🙂

Hi Andrew! Expect you noticed that I’d nominated you for greece in the Picture the World Project? http://restlessjo.wordpress.com/2012/06/10/picture-the-world/
Not sure when you’re back from Russia, or if you’ll have the time, but it’s a brand new project and they’re just getting it up and running. I thought it was a great idea, but no worries if not.

I’ve only been to Santorini (your cover photo I think) & I completely love it! If i could pick only one country to go to for the rest of my life it would be Greece 🙂 Can’t wait to win the lottery & start island hopping there!

Just curious — You don’t like Crete? I lived there just outside New Gouvas for approximately 2 years.

Yes, I like Crete, I hope I didn’t give the impression that I don’t. I have only been there once, in 2001 when I stayed at Agios Nikolaos. It was only for a few days and my favourite place was Knossos.

You must have been on the New Road a lot. St. Nicholas is at one end and Knossos is on the other. I never got the chance to see Knossos, but I loved the shops in St. Nicholas. What I loved most about the island were the people. They are extremely hospitable and genuinely kind.

Yes, as an hyperactive schedule, I stay busy while seeing lots. This first trip to Europe is a highlight trip only. Seeing it all, in a short amount of time so I know what to see next time.

I will look forward to reading about it. I have been all of them except Monaco and Albania. A shame you haven’t got a bit of time left over to squeeze in Spain and Portugal!

Wow you’ve been to so much of Greece. I’ve only had the fortune to see Athens and Corfu and that was a very long time ago. Need to add it to my short list … your photos make me want to go ASAP.
