A very different sort of washing line this week…
This is Fez in Morocco, a tannery to be precise, hanging up in the sun are animal hides waiting for the dying process in the limestone vats below.
The price to pay for a rooftop view of the famous limestone dye pits was another difficult twenty minutes in a leather shop selling coats, jackets, slippers and bags. I didn’t think we were going to get out of there very easily but again Micky was our saviour when he negotiated the purchase of a belt and we were able to get away.

Welcome to my New Project – Washing Lines
Thank you all for joining in, there have been a number of featured washing lines from Burano in the Venetian lagoon so here is mine, something that I knocked up from collected driftwood on my travels…
It is a Challenge, feel free to join in.

Welcome to my latest theme. Monday Washing Lines.
This is the Italian town of Marino quite close to Rome. I like the way the woman is watching out over the washing line, surely not concerned that there maybe a rain shower.

Someone has taken a lot of trouble to get the presentation of this washing line right in Kotor, Montenegro…
I do believe that whoever pegged this load out has made a very good job of it. My only slight criticism is the unnecessary coloured dress or whatever it is.

This was spotted on a Gondola ride on the canals of Venice…
Good pegging out, all one colour which saves worrying about matching pegs to washing. Being slightly critical, I wouldn’t hang stripes next to spots and I would have hung the spotted pillow case next to the matching sheet, but that’s just me.
At water level there was a completely different perspective to the buildings and here we could see the exposed brickwork and the crumbling pastel coloured stucco, sun blistered and frost picked and giving in to the constant assault of the waters of the lagoon as it gnaws and gouges its relentless way into the fabric of the buildings.

Welcome to my latest theme. Monday Washing Lines.
“They that wash on Monday have all the week to dry…” – Victorian advice on housekeeping routines set in stone the idea that Monday should be wash-day, so that everything could be dried, pressed, aired and folded well before Sunday, the day of rest and clean clothes.
This impressive line of washing was in Villajoyosa near Alicante in Spain. The woman has done a good job and has earned her siesta…

This was a very windy day in Alghero in Sardinia…
…the next morning, the night after the cyclone, when we opened the shutters of the room and looked out into the storm battered streets Alghero looked rather damp, drenched, soggy and windswept, forlorn and feeling rather sorry for itself…
