Do you always manage to find shops with old stock? They all look like postcards from my childhood.

There were modern ones available but I thought these had a certain charm. Yorkshire in the days of the Ridings!

Everywhere recycles postcards. Last year my son went to Naples and bought me back some postcards. There was one of Mount Vesuvius that was exactly the same one as one I brought back from a holiday to Sorrento in 1976!

The Yorkshire abbeys intrigued me – Rievaulx and Fountains are pictured – where else?

Kirkstall and Bolton?

They were the first two that came to mind and there was obv no Whitby n there. I was sticking my neck out as I thought the postcard would have said though!

Oh, OK… I don’t know either of those

It’s actually Bolton Priory in the village of Bolton Abbey, but it often gets called Bolton Abbey. Nice village, or it used to be.
Kirkstall is just outside Leeds.

Sue, the one I forgot might be Jervaulx (rather than Kirkstall). Bit difficult to tell from the small piccies. And I’m not sufficiently motivated to compare online pix. But rievaux, jervaux, fountains and bolton would make geographical sense. Too many abbeys in Yorkshire!! For an unruined one, Selby is a nice abbey. Many other big churches tend to be minsters.

Didn’t look like Jervaulx to me – I visited a few years ago

I tried competitions – total failure – nobody joined in. Never again!

You joined mine. The fade away and radiate one. Actually I’ve done them before and a few people usually play. A bit like polls. Maybe I have competitive readers? 😀

I overdid mine a bit I think!

I knew three out of five. The obvious ones! I’d have had to google the other two. Not a bad quiz, and you did get replies. Given that I’m normally awake when your posts come up I might have played. I like the Elgin Marbles. In the BM. History is what it is.

My postcard collection is getting bigger. I am going to need a second box!

Don’t you have an album?! Not sure if I still have mine or if my mother threw them out. Or maybe I did.

Albums take up too much space, boxes are more economical. I have dismantled all of my albums and keep old photographs and postcards in shoe boxes these days!

Yeah. I’ve got boxes and drawers full of pre digi photos. Nearly forty years worth. Ugh.

I love your postcard collection, Andrew 🙂 Roughly how many? I have a shoebox full too. Have to dig em out one day!

Hundreds Jo, going back to about 1984. I have promised them to my son in my Will, he looked disappointed, I think he would prefer cash!

You know i love a goo quiz as discussed above. I haven’t done that for awhile myself.
Oh and a miracle has occurred Andrew. I’m in the Reader today. Be still my beating heart. Thanks again for your help along the way.

Peggy and I can never resist going through old post cards, either. What is it about us? 🙂 –Curt

Check them out on ebay, some can be surprisingly valuable.

Collecting post cards would be a fun hobby, I imagine Andrew. Not surprised about the value, given peoples passion for collecting and the rarity of some cards. –Curt

I love these old postcards, Andrew. There’s something much more charming about the older ones. The modern ones somehow strip away the character of the place.

The older ones took my eye immediately I saw them!

One of the monks appears envious of the other group’s uniforms.

I’m still fascinated by the monks. I hadn’t noticed that it was, presumably, painted on different pieces of wood.

I took this picture at Fountains Abbey, I thought it looked like a postcard.
