Do you always manage to find shops with old stock? They all look like postcards from my childhood.

There were modern ones available but I thought these had a certain charm. Yorkshire in the days of the Ridings!

Everywhere recycles postcards. Last year my son went to Naples and bought me back some postcards. There was one of Mount Vesuvius that was exactly the same one as one I brought back from a holiday to Sorrento in 1976!

They were the first two that came to mind and there was obv no Whitby n there. I was sticking my neck out as I thought the postcard would have said though!

It’s actually Bolton Priory in the village of Bolton Abbey, but it often gets called Bolton Abbey. Nice village, or it used to be.
Kirkstall is just outside Leeds.

Sue, the one I forgot might be Jervaulx (rather than Kirkstall). Bit difficult to tell from the small piccies. And I’m not sufficiently motivated to compare online pix. But rievaux, jervaux, fountains and bolton would make geographical sense. Too many abbeys in Yorkshire!! For an unruined one, Selby is a nice abbey. Many other big churches tend to be minsters.

I knew three out of five. The obvious ones! I’d have had to google the other two. Not a bad quiz, and you did get replies. Given that I’m normally awake when your posts come up I might have played. I like the Elgin Marbles. In the BM. History is what it is.

Albums take up too much space, boxes are more economical. I have dismantled all of my albums and keep old photographs and postcards in shoe boxes these days!

Yeah. I’ve got boxes and drawers full of pre digi photos. Nearly forty years worth. Ugh.

Hundreds Jo, going back to about 1984. I have promised them to my son in my Will, he looked disappointed, I think he would prefer cash!

Collecting post cards would be a fun hobby, I imagine Andrew. Not surprised about the value, given peoples passion for collecting and the rarity of some cards. –Curt

I love these old postcards, Andrew. There’s something much more charming about the older ones. The modern ones somehow strip away the character of the place.
